The Staff

Dr. R. Bruce Weisman is the Founder and President of Applied NanoFluorescence, LLC. He received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago, and has served on the faculty of Rice University in Houston since 1979. Dr. Weisman is internationally recognized for his contributions to the spectroscopy and photophysics of carbon nanostructures. In 2002, he led the research project that successfully assigned the near-infrared fluorescence transitions of carbon nanotubes to specific structural forms. Prof. Weisman is Secretary of the Fullerenes, Nanotubes, and Carbon Nanostructures Division of the Electrochemical Society and a Co-editor of the journal Applied Physics A. He has served on the IEEE Standards Group for Carbon Nanotube Properties (2004) and is currently a U.S. Technical Expert advising ISO Working Group 229 on Carbon Nanotube Characterization.

Dr. Sergei M. Bachilo is the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Applied NanoFluorescence. He has many years of experience in laser spectroscopy, time-resolved spectroscopy, as well as the design and optimization of optical instrumentation. Dr. Bachilo received a Bachelor's degree in Optics and Spectroscopy from the Belarussian State University, and a Doctoral degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Institute of Physics, Belarus Academy of Sciences. Working at Rice University in 2001, he made the seminal discovery of near-infrared fluorescence from single-walled carbon nanotubes. Dr. Bachilo has published more than 60 scientific papers and remains an internationally recognized authority on nanotube spectroscopy.

Dr. Ajay Rege is the Vice President of Business Operations at Applied NanoFluorescence, LLC. Dr. Rege received a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from Poona University in India, and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Texas A&M University. Dr. Rege previously worked in pharmaceutical R&D, where he held several management positions. He brings real world industry experience of over 16 years to ANF.

Dr. Ernest K. Lewis is a Production Engineer for ANF. He has many years of optical instrumentation experience and is applying that to nanotube spectroscopy, ion-mobility mass spectrometry for MALDI imaging, and nanomaterial production characterization techniques and chemistries. He received his B.S. in Chemistry and Molecular Biology from Texas Lutheran University in 1998 and his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Baylor University in 2003.
